Vital Stim Therapy: Our Director of Speech
Language Pathology is certified in Vital Stim Therapy a
specific treatment technique for dysphagia (swallowing
dysfunction). VitalStim Therapy is the only NMES
(neuromuscular electrical stimulation) technology cleared by
the FDA to restore the swallowing function to patients with
Oropharyngeal Dysphagia. In clinical and real-world
settings, VitalStim Therapy has been proven safe and
effective. It has successfully treated patients of every age
and etiology, even those whose dysphagia has advanced beyond
the six-month period of spontaneous recovery. VitalStim
Therapy is performed by passing a small current through
electrodes placed on the neck. The electricity stimulates
inactive or deteriorated swallowing muscles. Concurrently,
trained specialists administer rehabilitation therapy to
help re-educate the muscles. For more information visit

Talk Tools Oral Motor Program: Our Director of
Speech Language Pathology has specialized training in this
area. Talk Tools is a "tactile teaching technique which
supplements traditional therapy." Where traditional therapy
primarily incorporates visual and auditory techniques, this
program focuses on the tactile component. It is used to
improve muscle awareness, placement, strength/motor memory,
and production, which are all requirements to achieving
speech clarity. This program is used in conjunction with
other techniques to provide a well rounded oral motor
program. For more information visit Talk Tools at

CranioSacral Therapy is a gentle method of detection
and correction that encourages your own natural healing
mechanisms to dissipate these negative effects of stress on
your central nervous system. Craniosacral therapy utilizes
light touch - generally no more than the weight of a nickel.
The practitioner monitors the rhythm of the craniosacral
system to detect potential restrictions and imbalances. The
therapist then uses manual techniques to release those
problem areas and relieve undue pressure on the brain and
spinal cord. For more information visit

Kinesio Taping: The application of a woven tape
that offers recoil when stretched. It does not require the
use of an under wrap and can be used with or without the
Milk of Magnesia. Tape does NOT contain latex.
Benefits of Kinesio Taping are:
- Assists in education of a weakened muscle
- Helps
reduce muscle fatigue
- Assists to limit an over-extension and over-contraction
of muscle tissue
- Reduces occurrence of cramping
- Reduces Pain
- Reduces Inflammation
- Reduces Edema
- Assists in improvement of range of motion
- Aids in removal of hemorrhages
- Assists in overall joint function

Myofacial Release is a hands on treatment that
addresses restrictions in our bodies connective tissue
system (or fascial system). This is a special system which
encompasses our entire body without interruption, which
provides a constant pull over all of our body’s structures
to enable better support. For more information visit

Our Director of Physical Therapy has
specialized training in the following areas:
- CranioSacral
Therapy (CST)

with Pediatrics
- Intensive European Approach, including Therasuit™
(www.suittherapy.com) and Universal Exercise Unit
training.
What makes Active Development Therapies, L.L.C. Unique?
We offer a special Intensive European Approach to
therapy which was developed by two Physical Therapist,
Richard and Izabela Koscielny, along with the Therasuit™
method.

The Therasuit™ method, sometimes referred to as “suit
therapy,” involves a soft dynamic orthotic device that was
developed by the above mentioned therapists to:
- Improve
postural alignment
- Inhibit spastic muscle tone
-
Improve proprioceptive awareness
- Improve balance
- Strengthen weak
muscle function
- Improve coordinated movements
The Therasuit™ can be used in conjunction with the Intensive
European Approach or during a regular physical therapy
session. The Intensive European Approach is a 3 hour treatment
session, 5 days a week, for a period of 3 weeks. This
particular program consists of 3 phases of treatment:
Warm-Up Phase: the body is prepared through the use of
modalities to lengthen soft tissue, improve joint awareness,
improve body in space awareness, and improve postural
alignment.- Strengthening Phase: the neck, trunk, and extremities are
targeted through an individualized treatment plan to address
strength deficits using isometric, isotonic, and resistive
training.
- Functional Application Phase: the child works on a variety
of activities such as transitional skills, mobility, gait
training, balance activities, coordination drills,
transfers, gross motor skills, fine motor skills, and ADL’s.
